My Updates

Day 31 - It’s a wrap

Sunday 31st May
Ending MTM with a slower paced Sunday, dog walks and a garden tidy. Much needed after the madness of London earlier in the week. I shall be using the time back from all the working to properly tidy my garden, between the puppy - Otis and the focus on steps the weeds have taken hold. The Peonies have still succeeded though.

All personal goals met, next challenge the summit of Snowdon. Roll on July!

Day 27 - London Day 2

Wednesday 27th May
Tower of London was a must visit as Olivia is obsessing over Six the musical and King Henry 8th’s wives. So started our second day tour of London there, thank goodness the weather was a bit cooler today. Then on to Oxford street shopping finishing the day with a mooch around Covent Garden. My feet are killing me! But great to get so many steps in.

Have to say though I’ll be glad to get home. Being in the big city makes me realise how busy it can get, so many people and apparently it’s a challenge to try walk through me! No one looks where they are going, no eye contact, no engagement and rush hour to be honest freaks me out?!. Take me back to the countryside where there’s more space, a slower pace and time to look up and take on what’s around you.

Day 26 - Day 1 London

Tuesday 26th May
34 degree heat and it’s a scorcher. Walked dogs at home and it was  21 degrees at 6:30am!!! Set off for London with my daughter, found our hotel (not far from our Foley street office and no Olivia didn’t want to stop by- I did offer!), quick tour around regent park, onto the Natural History Museum to find dinosaurs and dodos then a bit of down time before hitting china town, Leicester Square and finishing on Beetlejuice at the theatre (amazing btw) with a late night walk back the the hotel. All good stuff for MTM26!! Tower of London tomorrow

Day 25 - it’s just toooohot!

Monday 25th May
Who would have thought the bank holiday weekend would be so hot! I can’t remember the last BH weekend we had with so much sunshine! There’s not been as many steps in as I’d have liked but the weather called for a slower pace and shorter dog walks- gotta be careful not to over do it. So there’s been pottering in the garden and the steps soon add up. I’ve cleared forget me nots to make way for the next blooms and spread their seeds in the wilder parts of my garden where it doesn’t matter if they go rampant. Clocked nearly 10k steps.

I’m off to London tomorrow so hoping to make up for the last couple of days at a slower pace. I’m on the cusp of hitting target which I’m pretty confident I’ll hit.  Last few steps, but still opportunity to raise £££. Let’s see how we do!

Day 17- A Sneaky 20km

Sunday 17th May
A sneaky 20km on a Sunday morning, starting from my home town towards Rigsby Wood, then onto Calceby, South Thoresby, Belleau and Aby going right past my first Primary School which sadly, like many rural schools has now closed.

We got caught in a hail storm but that didn’t dampen our sprits as we headed towards Swinn Wood and back to Rigsby. I was all for calling a pick up but mum was like- ‘we’re nearly back now’ and stormed onwards, gotta keep going and before you knew it we were back! Not sure I have a dog walk in me as well so training in the garden this afternoon. Now just shy of 150km and well on with getting towards that target of 200km!

The Triple Coastal Challenge Pt 2

Friday 15th May
Setting off from Chapel towards Skegness the sun finally came out and we hit the touristy part of our journey pas the land of caravans and holiday parks towards Skegness where Phil found the land train sign - a perfect match for his outfit! We hit 10, 15 and 20k by the time we got to Skeg Pier before the final leg to Gibraltar point.

Through the salt marshes we may had hit a little lost but with a text from mum watching our progress via shared location with a ‘don’t lose your way now!’ We found the right path and headed towards Gibraltar Point. This was the hardest leg by far, tired and weary we finally made it with my dad and husband on hand to pick us up and whisk us home for a well deserved BBQ tea. What an amazing accomplishment, which wouldn’t have been achieved without this fantastic team.

The Lincolnshire Triple Coastal Challenge

Friday 15th May
It was EPIC! 15 miles, 3 amazing Kier Design Projects connected by a team with a determination come hail, thunderstorms, rain and shine to visit each one. I’ve seen these projects designed and delivered over the last 10 years and experiencing them in this way was memorable in every sense of the word.

Dropped off at Sandilands Nature Reserve by my mum and husband we set off to Huttoft Boat shed stopped just in time for a coffee and shelter from a hail storm.  From there we set off along the beach to Anderby Creek and onto the North Sea Observatory. I don’t know how we did it, but by a whisker we missed a massive thunderstorm as the coastal breeze blew it in land rather than over our heads. Then a pit stop at the North Sea Observatory for lunch.

Day 10 - Gunby Hall to Bratoft

Sunday 10th May
Blisters, sore knees, dodgy hips and the movement is still keeping going with a country walk with my parents from Gunby Hall to Bratoft circular walk.

Past the Scheduled Ancient Monument of the moated remains of Bratoft Hall to Bratoft Church with it's C18th brick tower and back to Gunby Hall through the haunted Buttoncap Holt we braved young cows and the disused railway line to find Early Purple Orchids and Sweet White Nettles.

My mum had me try extract nectar from the white flowers of the White Nettles, but I'm not sure she was pulling my leg or not?!  She told stories of doing this in her youth, but does anyone else know if this is true - can you get sweet nectar from sweet nettles, because I tasted nothing!

Every Step Counts!

Thursday 7th May
Why take the tube when you can enjoy London early morning and walk between office locations?! From our Kier Foley Street office to Chiswell Street office, right past Prince Albert and another 5km in the bag! Got my first war wound however with my first burst blister, however it doesn’t finish hitting my 50km milestone! Now where are my blister patches???

When East meets South

Thursday 7th May
What better way to take advantage of having meetings in London that to join forces with our Southern Architectural contingency for an after work stroll through Regents Park, a stop off at the Queen Elizabeth’s garden (stunning) then up to Primrose Hill to enjoy the views over London. A quick stop off to replenish our fluids and then a small pause in steps to get the tube back as it was getting late! Thanks to Mithran, Andrew, Stefano and Graham for joining in!

Busy Bank Holiday Weekend

Tuesday 5th May
Kick Started Moving Through May with a walk through our local fields and woods finishing with a litter pick tidying up after some teenagers who had enjoyed the sun and left their drink containers and sweet papers everywhere - how rude!

Got the whole family engaged with hitting those steps with a trip to Sandringham, adopted a more leisurely pace for my parents, but it gave my daughter opportunity to test out her map reading skills in preparation for her DoE award coming up - she even carried the back back - shock!

Finished with a team hike circular route from Snipe Dales to Hagworthingham - discovered unchartered stone henge protected by a flock of demonic sheep!

All good fun in the spirit of raising money for some worthy causes!  Check out images in the gallery to see what we got up to!

A year of Challenges!

Friday 24th Apr
I love Spring and the finer weather, it means Moving Through May is back and we can get outside in the fresh air more.

This year I will be using Moving Through May to not just raise money for charity, but to get some training in for a Snowdon Climb Challenge with my Son's football team later in the year.

I'll be taking this opportunity to not only take my dog Arlo on the journey but to get my new Puppy Otis trained (maybe!!!).

Any support will be gratefully received!
