Moving Through May – A Challenge I’ll Never Forget

Friday 8th May

Back in 2023, I decided to take part in Kier’s “Moving Through May” challenge alongside my colleagues Solum. The goal was simple: stay active throughout May using only walking and running to complete the challenge while raising money along the way.

At first, I saw it as a personal challenge — a chance to improve my fitness, stay disciplined, and support a good cause. What I didn’t expect was how motivating the experience would become once the month got underway. Every walk, every run, and every mile completed added to the bigger picture.

There were definitely difficult days. Some mornings required more motivation than others, and fitting the miles around work and daily life wasn’t always easy. But once I committed to the challenge, I wanted to see it through properly.

What made the experience even more rewarding was the fundraising side of the event. Friends, family, and colleagues supported the challenge throughout the month, and seeing donations continue to grow gave me even more motivation to keep going.

By the end of May, I was incredibly proud — not only had I completed the challenge entirely through walking and running, but I was also fortunate enough to raise the highest amount of money overall for the event.

The highlight came afterwards when I was invited to Edgbaston Cricket Ground and had the opportunity to meet Andrew Davies in recognition of the achievement. It was a surreal moment and a fantastic way to celebrate the effort that had gone into the month.

Looking back, “Moving Through May” was about much more than steps, distance, or fundraising totals. It reminded me what consistency, commitment, and community support can achieve when you fully dedicate yourself to something.

It’s an experience I’ll always be proud of.
