This May, I’m getting moving for a great cause! I’m taking part in Moving Through May, a distance challenge raising vital funds for the Kier Foundation. The money raised will support Action for Children, Kier Group’s charity partner, alongside a range of brilliant local charities chosen by Kier regions.

In these constantly changing and challenging times, charities are needed more than ever. By donating, you’re helping them continue their amazing work—supporting children, families, and communities when it matters most.

Every step I take is powered by your support. If you’re able to contribute, no matter how big or small, you’ll be making a real difference. Let’s move, give, and do some good together 💙

Moving Through May - Day 25: Shopping!

Thursday 28th May

When the Bank Holiday heatwave hits, most people flock to beaches or beer gardens… but not us. Alannah and I went clothes shopping instead 😄

We took on the shops in full summer mode. It was warm, busy, and slightly chaotic but also the perfect excuse to refresh the wardrobe and soak up the sunshine.

We smashed over 10,000 steps without even realising. Shopping and a workout? I’ll take that as a win.

Moving Through May - Day 16: Pink Pig Farm

Tuesday 19th May

Day 16 took us to Pink Pig Farm. Yes, it absolutely lives up to its name… piggies everywhere! 🐖

Between wandering around the farm and chasing after all the action, I don't know the exact km covered, but I can confidently say my step count got a serious boost!

Farm days are not for the faint of heart... Or knees! Between bouncing on castles and clambering through tractor tyres, I realised… I might just be too old for this. 😂

Moving Through May - Day 9: Willingham Woods

Friday 15th May

Day 9 called for another family walk, also at a delightfully slow, “snails pace” around Willingham Woods. We did a total of 3,222 steps in 60 minutes… not exactly breaking records, but that wasn’t the point.

We fed the ducks, sent sticks sailing downstream in a round of Pooh sticks, and stumbled across an impressively sturdy lean-to that some hardworking scouts had clearly been busy building.

Fresh air, small adventures, and the kind of day that reminds you it’s okay to be slow every now and then.

Moving Through May - Day 4: Matlock Farm Park

Friday 15th May

We made the most of the bank holiday with a trip to Matlock Farm Park. Not only did we get out for some fresh air, but we even managed to rope the in-laws into clocking up a few steps!

Best bit was watching the little ones light up when they got to pet a Highland cow —what’s not to love?

All in all, a day of easy laughs, tired legs, and happy memories. Exactly what a bank holiday should be!

Moving Through May - Day 2: Hubbard's Hills

Thursday 7th May

My husband and son joined me for a family walk around Hubbard’s Hills. It was a gorgeous day — sunshine, scenery, and plenty of fresh air… which was lucky, because it took us a full hour to cover just 2km 😅

The pace? Set entirely by an 18‑month‑old with important sticks to inspect and zero interest in personal bests. Slow, sweet, and full of stops — but a lovely walk none-the-less!

Moving Through May - Day 1: The Gym

Tuesday 5th May

On Friday, I took my Kier cap for a spin at the gym and officially kicked off my Moving Through May journey.

It’s been a long time since I last committed to regular exercise. Having a baby is amazing—but let’s be honest, it makes finding time and motivation a real challenge.

So when a few of the guys from the office suggested, “Let’s start a team,” I thought… why not? Sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement (and a team goal) to get moving again.

Here’s to small steps, shared motivation, and showing up—cap on, trainers laced. 💪
