Oh so you've found the winner of Moving through May 2025...

I am taking part in Moving through May, as my line manager wanted to create a pseudo competition with our rivals: the drainage team in Salford.

A small part of me wants to ignore this challenge and get on with my life, but I am too competitive for my own good. As I have now been goaded into taking part, I may as well win. Plus getting out and moving more seems like a bonus (writing this as it is currently sunny, my opinion and level of enthusiasm may change as the weather does).

Meldon reservoir to WW2 plane crash site

Tuesday 6th May
On Monday I made the most of my free time to revisit a site I had not been to for at least 15 years. The plane crash site at Black-a-Tor south west from Meldon reservoir (near Okehampton, Devon). The walk was undulating, not helped by the misremembering of the way there but still proved to be 3.5hours of walking well spent. Pixie (my Jack Russell) seemed to approve also and spent the rest of the day sleeping it off. The route was about 9 miles in total, taking in the stunning views we all know and love from Dartmoor. We even heard the call of Cuckoo birds from somewhere within the adjacent Black-a-Tor copse when we stopped to view the remains of the wreckage.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Wednesday 30th Apr
And so our tale begins here, the sun is shining the birds tweeting and the leaves rustling in the gentle spring breeze. A tranquil calm resonates through the clear air in Kingskerswell, carry aromas of freshly cut grass and the promise of adventure.
But first, I must away to purchase anti-histamines. The good ones that actually work, and are non-drowsy. I don't think being drowsy will positively impact my lofty ambitions of walking 50km in May.
Stay tuned for another exciting entry when we all are underway.
