What is Race the Trace?
Race the Trace is EKFB’s annual fundraising event where we ask our delivery and route-wide teams, including our supply chain, to go head-to-head to race the length of the trace to raise money for charity.
Why should I participate in Race the Trace?
Because it’s fun! As well as raising money for local charities along the trace, you will benefit from getting active both physically and mentally. It’s also a great opportunity for you to form a team with your colleagues and get to know each other better.
How does it work?
Earn points by exercising, and different types of exercise will earn you different amounts of points. All you need to do is enter how many minutes and which activity you did, and our platform will work out your points and add them to your team’s total for you. Magic!
If every teams gets moving and earns points, EKFB will donate a total of £15,000 to local charities along the trace.
How long will Race the Trace last for?
This year Race the Trace will take place from Monday 2 June to Monday 30 June (inclusive).
Why is Race the Trace in June?
The first Race the Trace took place in September. Though it was a great success, we received feedback that it would be better placed in the summer months, when the weather is warmer and the evenings are lighter for longer. Since then, we run the challenge in June and saw an increase on engagement from all teams hence the decision to run the challenge in June again.
How do I register?
That’s easy – click here to register and follow the quick and simple process.
Which team should I choose?
Please select the delivery area that you work in. If you work across multiple delivery areas, either choose route-wide or choose the area you work within the most.
What types of exercise count?
All sorts! The table on the homepage shows the types of exercise that count, and the amount of points you can accumulate per minute.
We try to include as many as possible, if you can't find your activity please find a similar activity (i.e. tennis instead of another racket sport).
How can I log my activity?
Why is it now mandatory to upload a picture when adding my activity?
We rely on people making the right choice and logging the correct amount of points; however, by uploading a picture, we increase personal accountability and accuracy. Plus, all those will be displayed on a rotating basis on your team's page - you will be able to see what people are up to!
What if my activity isn’t listed?
If your activity isn’t listed, please choose the closest type of exercise. We can’t add new activities once the challenge begins, but please drop a message to communications@ekfb.com so we can include it in next year’s event.
How do I collect my points?
All you need to do is enter how many minutes and which activity you did, and our new platform will work out your points and add them to your team's total for you. Magic!
Who are the chosen charities?
This year’s key themes for charity selection have focused on social mobility, environment and disability.
G2S Team - Woodford Halse Community Larder
How were the charities chosen?
Each project team chooses their charities – this might be through a vote or decided by the Project Director. All charities must be local to the trace (or have a local branch). This is to maximise our positive impact to communities disrupted by the works.
Can suppliers participate?
Yes! Race the Trace is open to everyone on the C23 programme, including EKFB, HS2, ASC and our supply chain. Just click ‘register’ to sign up!
Can I, or my friends or family, make a personal donation?
Yes please! You, your friends, and your family can make a personal donation on your profile page. You can also spread the news by sharing your page on social media using the share buttons on your profile page.
What can we win?
The winning team will receive the coveted Race the Trace trophy to proudly display in their head office until next year, when the challenge will start again.
As well as receiving the trophy, the winning team will recieve a team BBQ to celebrate their victory.
Individuals can also win prizes for raising the most funds for their team's charity or for earning the most activity points overall.
How does my team win Race the Trace?
Race the Trace is all about exercising and earning points with your team mates - and that's how you win.
This year we'll be calculating our winning team differently: the total number of team points will be divided by the number of registered team members to get the average, the team with the highest average will be our season 5 winners!
That means that if Team X has 40 registered members, and earns 2.7 million points, their team score will be 67,500. This means teams with a smaller number of registered members can compete with larger teams.
Can I add GiftAid to my donation?
Yes - following on your feedback, we have added GiftAid. Please note it requires you to provide a UK home address that you can quickly fill in before making the donation.
Can I upload a STRAVA map as evidence of activity?
We have disabled the functionality to upload a Strava map directly from the app due to concerns over privacy (ie. inadvertedly showing your location). Instead, you can take a screenshot and upload it as an image.
