Andy completed a nightime ascent of Snowdon via the Llanberris path, aided by headtorches only, raising £1320 for SERV Kent
Andy and his daughter joined a team of around 60 people, to complete a nighttime ascent of Snowdon via the Llanberris path.
Andy said:
"Any 1am start is rude. The 6th August was no exception. We had managed a couple of hours ‘kip’ in the car between getting to Llanberris for dinner and registration. So, after a brew and briefing it was off at 2am on the trek.
I’ve climbed Snowdon before a couple of times, so knew some of what the Llanberris pass had instore, but this time, just after a yellow weather warning, was something else!
We passed halfway house at 3.15am, slogging onwards and gradually upwards in the dark, wet, wind and fog. We reached the summit at 5am in what felt like a gale! Even holding on to the trig point wasn’t easy!
The trek back down offered increasing light, arriving back for a brew and a buttie by 7.30am. The descent is much harder than you think, particularly on the legs. It was interesting to see in daylight what we had passed in darkness as well as enjoying the view when we finally dropped out below cloud base, with the sun in the distance on the coast.
A big thank you to all who sent words of support and sponsorship- it really helped. We exceeded our target and hopefully made a dent in securing the future of the car that SERV Kent Bloodrunners needs."
Kier Foundation were delighted to be able to offer match funding of £200 towards this brilliant charity, making a fantastic total raised of £1320
